Tobago
Tobago together with its larger sister island Trinidad is part of the West
Indies. They are the most southerly of the Caribbean islands, and
are a mere seven miles from the coast of Venezuela. Trinidad with its oil
and natural gas is the most industrialized of the Caribbean islands.
Port of Spain is its capital and largest port. The island of Tobago on
the other hand oozes tranquility.
Tobago offers something for almost everyone, whether you come here for
the scuba diving, golf, big game fishing, water sports, yachting,
bird watching, the nature trails or just to laze out on the beach.
This is the place for sun lovers, naturalists, divers and people in
search of anunspoilt paradise.
The island boasts a multitude of white sandy
beaches; some fine examples are Store Bay and Pigeon Point, both
near to the island's International Airport.
The well known Buccoo reef is one of the most easily
accessible coral reefs in the Caribbean, where anyone (novice or expert) can dive
or snorkel in a fascinating undersea world filled with exotic tropical fish -
a diver's dream!
On your visit to the reef, experience the nearby
Nylon pool, a shallow ocean oasis with crystal clear water on white sand where
one can stand and enjoy the warmth of the Caribbean Sea in what appears to be
the middle of the ocean.
There are
two international standard championship golf courses on the
island. The one at Mt. Irvine allows golfers to play a relaxing
18 holes amidst the beauty and shade of palm trees and in close
proximity to the beautiful Mt. Irvine beach, while the Plantations
Golf Course, also in a very beautiful setting, is more
challenging.
Direct flights to Tobago arrive from London, England and other major European
airports. It is easily accessible by air and by sea from
Trinidad, the more frequent destination of many of the major
airlines.
